 Current status and development of steel fiber concrete

Steel fiber concrete (SFRC) is a new type of composite material that can be casted and sprayed formed by adding an appropriate amount of short steel fiber to ordinary concrete. It has developed rapidly at home and abroad in recent years. It overcomes the shortcomings of low concrete tensile strength, low ultimate elongation, and brittleness. It has excellent tensile, bending, shear, crack resistance, fatigue resistance, and high toughness properties. It has been used in hydraulic engineering, road bridges, construction And other engineering fields have been applied.

一. The development of steel fiber concrete

Fiber concrete (FRC) is the abbreviation of fiber reinforced concrete, usually a cement-based 

omposite material composed of cement paste, mortar or concrete as the matrix and reinforced 

by metal fibers, inorganic fibers or organic fibers. It is a new type of building material formed by 

uniformly dispersing short and thin fibers with high tensile strength, high ultimate elongation and 

high alkali resistance in the concrete matrix. Fiber in the concrete can limit the occurrence of early 

concrete cracks and the further expansion of cracks under the action of external force, effectively 

overcome the inherent defects of low tensile strength, easy cracking, and poor fatigue resistance 

of concrete, and can greatly improve the impermeability of concrete. Waterproof, frost resistance, 

reinforcement and other aspects of performance.

Fiber concrete, especially steel fiber concrete, has received increasing attention from academia

and engineering circles in practical engineering due to its superior performance. In 1907, Soviet expert B. П. Hekpoca B began to use metal fiber to reinforce concrete; in 1910, HF Porter of the United States published a research report on short fiber reinforced concrete, suggesting that short steel fibers should be evenly dispersed in concrete to strengthen the matrix material; In 1911, American Graham mixed steel fiber into ordinary concrete to improve the strength and stability of concrete; by the 1940s, the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Japan and other countries have done a lot of work on using steel fiber to improve concrete.

二. Reinforcement mechanism of steel fiber concrete

1. Compound mechanics theory. The theory of composite mechanics is based on the theory of 

continuous fiber composite materials, combined with the distribution characteristics of steel fibers 

in concrete. The theory is that the composite material is regarded as a two-phase composite material 

with fiber as one phase and matrix as the other phase.

2. The theory of fiber spacing. The fiber spacing theory, also known as the anti-cracking theory, is based 

on linear elastic fracture mechanics. The theory believes that the reinforcement of fibers is only related to 

the evenly distributed fiber spacing (minimum spacing).
